Germany wins U-20 Women´s World Cup Final

We dreamed of being World Champions in our country. We dreamed of being World Champions in 2010. And we dreamed of seeing an African team in the World Cup Final. All of these dreams came true at last today in Bielefeld. Germany´s U20 women´s team defeated Nigeria 2:0 (1:0) in a close but fair match. Eight minutes have been played when Alexandra Popp scored her 10. goal in this year´s competion and it seemed as if Germany´s easy walk to the Championship would continue. But Nigeria proved, why they could defeat the US-team and others before and qualify for the final match. The team from Africa raised the pressure on Germany´s defense, but chances like Orji had after 28 minutes played were rare. As time went by, german players and fans became more and more confident of winning the match and the championships and they tried to go for a decisive second goal. But they had to wait until the second minute of extra time until Kim Kulig from Hamburger SV scored and it was beyond all doubt who would become the new World Champion. Germany failed to impress the audience like they did before against North and South Korea but proved to be worthy champions against a strong nigerian team. South Korea won the third place in the Championships just before the final when they defeated Columbia 1:0.
